What if the holidays were the most exciting, loving, caring, and compassionate time of the year for you?

What if it was the time of the year you were most excited about life?

I used to HATE the holidays.

They were stressful and painful for a LOT of reasons. I grew up in a family that found the holidays stressful due to financial issues, which quickly turned into emotional issues. My parents even made an effort to try to restore my love for the holidays with what they called "Operation make Brad love Christmas again." (Yes it did get that bad!) However, despite my parent's attempts, this dislike for the holidays still transferred into my adult life.

Today I can say I LOVE the holidays, here's what changed for me...

The Ghost of Christmas Past

I began to realize the past only becomes the future if you live there. If you have had challenges in the past (and this does not only apply to Christmas!) and anticipate them or associate them with a certain time - it is likely they will play out in the exact way you expect. Give the ghost of Christmas present a chance!

The Power of Intention

You are not in control of other people, but you 100% responsible for yourself. At the end of each workday, I allow myself some time to fully release the stresses of the office before I walk into the next room to greet my family as a loving, inspiring, and exciting father, not a stressed one.

Applying this to the holiday's scenario, when we bring our anxieties and judgments into the room, it is difficult for things to change. The holidays, after all, are not about our expectations of others, they are about love which you bring. You can live in the expectation that people will change, and you can strive always to be right, but will either of those things make you happy?

What would you like your Christmas to be like? You are responsible for that, no-one else.

Remember: Hurt people HURT people.

If you are your best, most accepting version of yourself, you are much more likely to spread joy and excitement. What if you could be the very person that could make someone feel a little better in their darkest time?

I'll see you next week.
