Sparknotes:

Most people don’t realize that in their life there is a single person or event (maybe a couple) that dominates their entire world. Which is why today’s focus is on how to rewrite that narrative in a way that empowers and serves you.

Let’s dive right in!

Have you ever heard of the hero’s journey? It’s a story framework that focuses on the main character going on some kind of journey, faces and overcomes obstacles, and ends in their victory along with personal transformation. A lot of movies frame their plots using this framework because it’s so engaging and relatable.

Why is this important to know? Because if you look at anyone you admire and the way that they share their story—they do it through the framework of a hero’s journey! If you’re in a business, this will help you sell your program to people.

I want you to take a look at your story through the lens of the hero’s journey. What are you trying to overcome that will lead to your internal transformation?

So many people’s stories center around blame, and that’s completely normal.

But when you blame someone, you’re making them responsible for your life…. and your life is 100% your responsibility. Even though there may be things in your life that are not your fault, they are still your responsibility. That means what you believe, how you think, and how you act in response to those things is 100% on you.

You are responsible for every single part of your life, even the parts of your life that are not your fault. When we choose to blame, it gives our power away and says, “It's because of you. You are responsible for my life.” The thought process that comes with this is that until that person rights the wrong—which is highly unlikely—all of your life is dependent on that person or that situation changing.

Think of this person or situation you blame as a thorn in your arm.

The easiest thing to do would be to pull the thorn out so it’s not bothering you. Yet, most people build up their entire lives around trying not to hit that thorn. They’ll build contraptions and mechanisms to keep them out of pain… but never touch the thorn.

This is a huge mistake—building contraptions to make sure your trigger isn’t triggered—because that thorn is a piece of your heart that you haven’t healed yet. Until you process it, you can’t move forward. You’ll live a life tiptoeing around your thorn instead of being able to give 100% to your dreams.

I have a question for you now. What is blame giving you? Does it give you significance? Does it give you certainty? Once you identify what the blame story gives you, I want to take the narrative in a different direction and ask a new question.

If that person or event went the way you wanted it to go, would your life be the way it is right now?

Think about your best qualities. If you're really being honest with yourself, how many of those qualities would not be present if it wasn't for the situation or person that you blame from the past?

What if instead of blaming these people, you started thanking them? Because if they were who you wanted them to be, you wouldn't be who you are today.

If you adopt a belief that life really is always happening for you and not to you, and that the greatest pain in your life was actually the greatest blessing, you can find new purpose and meaning in your life. You can finally be free.

Complete this sentence: Life is ___

Is life hard? Is life a gift? Can you see how if someone’s life story is defined as hard or a challenge, then everything they do is going through life trying to prepare for battle? Knowing how you define your life is important because that’s how you’ll play it out. And a life lived as a battle is very different from that of those who see life as a gift.

It’s equally important to keep in mind that there’s multiple sides to every story—especially the ones you’re telling yourself. So what if you were to adopt compassion for the person or event that negatively impacted your life? This exercise isn’t to right their wrong, it’s merely taking a step back and putting yourself in their shoes. What were they going through at the time? What was their life experience?

Let’s take it a step further. I don’t want you to just have compassion for this person but visualize yourself as that wounded kid who received that pain. What would you say to that kid? What advice would you give them on how to heal? What if you finally gave them permission to be a kid again so you didn't need to hold on to that pain anymore? How would life be?

Let’s elevate this even more.

What if you viewed this through the universe’s perspective? What do you think the universe wanted that little kid to learn? What if there was a greater plan this entire time? What if it was meant to happen?

What if it was all part of the hero's journey?

Pain in life is guaranteed. But suffering? Suffering is your personal choice to stay in the pain because it’s giving you something. It’s time for you to rewire that life story and create one that will empower you. A story that gives you new life.

So, what type of story would you rewrite for yourself? Is it one of trust? Maybe it’s an epic battle turned into a love story or an adventure. Think about what you want your story to be and when you have it you’ll find it has an incredibly powerful impact on your success.

One perspective shift is all it takes to truly rewire your mind for success and create a life on your terms. If you’re having a hard time with this and wondering why you can’t get out of this domination of the past, then please download our brand-new PDF: Wired For Success.
