What's your emotional home?

...And by that I mean, what emotion do you tend to go back to when things aren't going your way? Today, let's learn how to elevate your Emotional Thermostat and begin to choose who you feel no matter what life throws at you.

Your emotions are like a thermostat (temperature) - there is a certain emotion that you tend to go back to on a regular basis. This emotion could be disempowering you. Your temperature does fluctuate with highs and lows but you find yourself returning to the same temperature time and time again.

The first step to upgrading your emotional thermostat is awareness. Where do you focus?

Ask yourself these questions...

The Three Patterns of Focus:

Pattern 1: Do you tend to focus on what's missing or what you are grateful for?

Pattern 2: Do you tend to focus on what you can control or what you can't control?

Pattern 3: Do you tend to focus on the past, present, or future?

 

Emotional Recipes

What's missing from your life + What you can't control + Past = Depression

What's missing from your life + What you can't control + Future = Anxiety/ Overwhelm

What's missing from your life + What you can't control + Present = Anger

What you're grateful for + What you can control + Past = Nostalgia

What you're grateful for + What you can control + Future = Excitement

What you're grateful for + What you can control + Present = Happiness

 

Step 2:  Identifying where you live emotionally.

Step 3: What triggers you to go back to the emotion? 

Step 4: How could you retrain it, so that when that trigger happens, you start to feel positive emotions from it.
